With any luck you can find a Posada one of the evenings, in which young children portray the biblical story of Mary and Joseph looking for an inn which will take them in. Mary typically rides a burro, and at the last house visited, which takes them in, there is a big party with a pinata for the kids. Weather seems to be messed up in much of the world today, and SMA just had one of the coldest winters anyone remembers. It tipped below freezing many nights during December and early January, and many plants froze. During the day it still usually was sunny, from 60 to 75 F. Many buildings don't have any heat--we usually don't need it--but check which hotel you are going to stay to make sure there is heat in the room beyond a fireplace, especially for a child. Bring warm clothes! Lots of families from Mexico City come to beautiful San Miguel for holidays, and there will be plenty of children around. Just going to the usual tourist sights should be enlightening for a child. Be sure to allow time for sitting in the Jardin watching other families and children relaxing in the city's living room! Buy a balloon toy from the many vendors, feed the pigeons, maybe hire a strolling mariachi band, enjoy the various dogs meet and greet each other, blow bubbles, and visit the live animals in the nativity scene by the giant Christmas tree in front of the Parroquia by the Jardin. You'll all have fun, promise. Carol Schmidt
