Don Agustin writes: However, if you plan to stay put in SMA during your visit, and have cable TV installed where you rent, it would make more sense to use their service instead of TelMex because you won't tie up your phone line, and second lines are hard to come by. DSL, in any of the implementations that I'm aware of (with the possible exception of iDSL, which is really just repackaged ISDN service) won't interfere with voice service or voice calls. Voice calls occupy the lower end of the frequency spectrum, typically in the 0-4 KHz range; data transmission in either the CAP or DMT implementations starts at 25 KHz and runs upward to 1.5 MHz. This means that as long as the installation is performed properly (specifically either microfilters are used to isolate voice equipment or a splitter is installed at the service entry point) you can have both voice conversations and data transmissions occurring simultaneously.
