Can anyone help with information for border crossing?

Please help if you can :) We are planning to drive from SMA to Brownsville (is that where you would cross for South Padre Island?) - does anyone know that route and how long it should take? Also, where would be a logical place to stop 1/2 way between?

I have been searching but just can't seem to get any specifics!

Thank You

You can drive it in one day but you can stop at Matahuela at Las Palmas for lunch and lodging or just have lunch at the candy factory on the left as you enter town. Saltillo or Monterrey or great places to stop. Good accommodations and good restaurants. It's four lanes - 57 to Monterrey and40 to Reynosa. Cross the border to McAllen and over to Brownsville. We have gone to Ciudad Victoria and up to Matamoros but it's not as quick.
