Bus from San Miguel de Allende to Morelia?

Can't Post |
I was under the impression that the only bus from San Miguel to Morelia meant a change of buses either in Queretaro, Celaya, or Guanajuato, and now I'm hearing reports that there is a nice direct line. Am I only hearing unfounded rumors, or is it true? And if the latter, what is the bus line?

I would suggest you contact Viajes San Miguel travel agency. If anyone would know the answer to your question, they would. E-mail them at travelsm@prodigy.net.mx or check their website at www.enjoy-mexico.com (PS)And Tony, there is no mx at the end of that second address, believe me.

I just took a bus today from SMA to DF...while at the central camionera, I asked for you and was told that there were no direct buses from SMA to Morelia but that one would have to go through Celaya. They hadn't heard any rumors to the contrary. saludos.

Thanks, Brian. I asked the travel agency suggested by Don Agustin, and I was told the same. Darn it!

Jusst came back from direct bus ride to San Antonio TX from SMA

I was hesitant to take a 16-hour bus ride each way but had a good time and it was definitely preferable to driving. I understand that a bus line out of Queretaro uses buses that are only three seats across instead of four, but four across was fine. Only crisis was when the bus's toilet stopped flushing in the morning at a time when everyone had to use it, but it was fixed at the next stop.

It cost $60, I think, for one way--cheaper than the tolls when driving. I believe the border search was easier as well. We got a greenlight even though my partner and I had four big suitcases and three bolsas crammed with new goodies. We saw people who had driven with all their goods spread out over the parking lot from every nook and cranny of their cars. Had to endure "Shallow Hal" that I had managed to avoid seeing so far, plus my third viewing of "Traffic," but the DVDs did make the trip go faster.

The return trip was so fast we got back to SMA at 5 am instead of 7 and that caused a few problems, but overall I'm sold on using the bus from now on. My last long-distance bus experience had been in 1965 in grad school and this was far superior.

Carol,

The bus you took to San Antonio, do you know if it goes from El Paso, or even better, Albuquerque, to SMA? If so, would you share the name of the line? I live in Santa Fe, NM, and want to go by bus to and from SMA several times next year.

I don't know of a direct bus line from those places but you surely could go by Greyhound to a connection to Americanos, the line I took. I think Greyhound owns Americanos anyway. I'm not in Mexico right now or I'd check down at the bus terminal myself.
