Aviva Bus line - Austin to San Miguel

Can't Post | Private Reply
Suzie and I are coming to San Miguel again at the end of October for a couple of weeks. We've driven down and back the last couple of times, but based on one friend's recommendation, we're thinking/planning on taking the bus this time -- Aviva is the line, leaving Austin arount 9:30PM and arriving in SMA the next afternoon. Another friend has had some less-than-favorable comments about the trip. I'm 6'5", and am therefore concerned about space. Anyone have any experience/comments to share about the trip?

We are looking into the following for relatives from Dallas area, you might want to consider it.

Drive to Laredo, park in the protected area near the border (think it's about $8/day or less),

go to bus station in Nuevo Laredo and take bus from there. We are waiting on more definitive

info. Will be happy to share when (and if ) we get it.....Enjoy

Hi, Garry --

Thanks for your input. Suzie and I went to the "bus station" (a converted gas station) last night to check out the bus. It really is a First Class number -- very spacious, TV, toilet, etc., so I think we're going to give it a shot. We got the name wrong from our friend -- it's Avila Tours -- but it's the right price and a good schedule (leave Austin 9:30PM, arrive SMA 3PM'ish the next day. There's a $10 discount if you buy a round trip ticket, so the total fare is $150/passenger. The Austin bus originates in Dallas.

We'll provide an evaluation after we've made the trip end-October.

Hi,

I have ridden the bus to SMA from Austin a number of times. 4 to be exact. My Mom and Dad are retired in SMA. The bus I take is Transportes San Miguel and originates in Dallas also. I catch it at a small tiende in East Austin at 11:00pm and arrive around 2:00 or 3:00 the following afternoon.....somewhat later if there is a line at the Laredo crossing. I have taken this bus with my husband once, my daughter once, my sister once and one time alone. I never felt the least bit threatened or afraid. The rate is the same as the other bus line you mentioned. I had heard there was a new bus line but didn't know much about it. If you would like more info please just ask and I can provide the number I had back in Nov. You may be a little cramped at 6'5"...but the seats recline. I have some suggestions if you take either bus, too. You can't beat the price......you just have to be flexible and allow time to get there and back. It's the only way to go as far as I'm concerned.........I don't like to fly. Just let me know if you need any more info.
