Anyone have information about this place. Also there is a large lake on the southern border between Michoacan and Guerreo fed by rivers running through a large valley in which Apatzingán is located. What is the valley name and the name of the lake ... por favor amigos
Joe

Apatzingan (not Afghanistan!) is a very clean, an agricultural center 350 meters above sea level, the site where the first Constitution of Mexico was signed back in 1814, modern, well-planned, and very prosperous. The people are friendly, gracious and hospitable. And hard-working. It may lack a symphony and puttin’ on the Ritz, but it’s got dancing horses! And spacious parks and harps.
It’s the heart and soul of the Tierra Caliente. And definitely bears visiting. In fact, I’m surprised that it hasn’t been discovered by expatriates looking for a clean, wholesome, interesting corner of Mexico. It’s easily accessible on the Morelia-Ururapan-Lazaro Cardenas cuota (turn off at Nueva Italia).
The Hotel Posada del Sol is an excellent hotel, with secure parking, located at the heart of the city. And its fountain is simply incredible!
Right now the weather there is quite pleasant. That said, it’s very, very hot during a large part of the year. Now’s the time to visit Apatingzan if you’re looking to warm those cold bones!
Overlooking the valley is the Virgen de Acahuato, whose image seems to guard all that stands below her. It’s definitely worth making the pilgrimage. (About 10 km. on a newly-paved road.)
The Valley is known as the Valley of Apatzingán, and the lake you're referring to is Presa del Infernillo.

So it is a 'snowbird hide-away'. I would like to find a place with warm weather December through March, warm being 70 - 80 range. I also need to be near water. Sounds like Apatzingán might fit the bill.
Joe

Whoops, I mispoke myself (well, I did write that back in December). March wouldn't be a good month to visit Apatzingan. Better would be from mid-October to late January. It really does heat up there!
I enjoy a trek over there during the late fall and winter, just because it is warm and toasty.
The snowbirds haven't discovered Apatzingan and probably never will.

: It is the hottest place I ever was, and has very little to see or do. Nice people, but not exactly a great place to be.
