Can anyone tell us anything about El Trebol in Guanajuato? It's listed in geocities but cannot find recommendations in any guidebooks or online. Thank you.

Thank you Uncle Jack. Yes, I'd seen that webpage but was hoping to find someone who's stayed there and/or knew more about it and could provide an opinion about Trebol. If you can, we'd greatly appreciate it. We usually travel without hotel reservations, but since our trip will be over the holidays we're concerned most places will be booked. Hence, our need to find a place we feel comfortable making reservations at for our entire stay.

I stayed at the Trebol for 2 weeks in November 2000 and for 1 week in February 2002 while attending Spanish language classes in Guanajuato.

This is not your standard hotel. Actually it is a private home that rents out rooms. You would have a room and bath, along with use of the kitchen and TV in the living room. Laundry facilities are available.

The lady's name is Ayda Porto, she is from Colombia and her husband Phillipe is from Belguim. They have one son, about 13 now I guess. You will have no trouble communicating in Spanish, English, or French.

The price is very modest. I paid 100 pesos (currently about $9US), but I don't know what the price may be now.

If you want a private place to escape this is not the place for you. The family welcomes you in and is very friendly. I still keep in contact with the family. I would not think of staying anywhere else in Guanajuato.
