Slingbox for viewing television

Has anyone in the Lake Chapala area tried using Slingbox for accessing their NOB television cable service via the internet? We have Infinitum from Telmex when we are in Ajijic and are wondering if the bandwidth is sufficient to provide a decent download and picture quality.

Here's the same answer I gave you in the Chapala Forum.
"Forget it. Remember what is considered broadband in Mexico is not considered broadband in other parts of the world. Imagine how bad the quality of sound and how small the picture would have to be to work with the medium speed connections available in Mexico. My Infinitum 1028 over 128 means up to that many kb/sec. I typically get 780 over 64 kb/sec. The cost? $401 pesos per month. And they call it broadband down here. For $689 or so pesos per month you can double those numbers. I pay about $46 US for Comcast's slowest broadband connection in Seattle which is advertised at 6 meg over 384 kb/sec. I usually get 5,700 over about 320 kb/sec The 8 meg connection that gives you about 7,800 down by 650 kb/sec up costs about $10 more per month. You need speeds like that if you want a reasonable picture Slingbox is a great toy, but it is no substitution for the real thing, especially here in Mexico where high speed internet is not yet available to the common man."
