Food-HD on Dish

Food-HD will become available on Dish Network before the end of August, likely sometime on August 16th. Obviously, you need an HD receiver, HD television, and subscribe to the HD package to receive and view in all of its' glory.
The thought of seeing a close up of Emeril's face in HD is more than a little disturbing to me.

Yes, but a closer look at Rachel would be nice.

Food Network has deteriorated enormously over the last 2-3 years. Emeril is by far more tolerable than many of the insipid and cooking-challenged hosts and shows currently on air. At least Emeril actually cooks and he's toned down a lot!

And sorry Rolly ;-), yeah, she's cute, but Rachel Ray is so overexposed and annoying. Kind of like nails on a chalkboard. And if I hear "delish" or "yum-o" one more time.....................

I used to be able to tolerate Paula Deen's "down home" folksy approach. But she's way over the top now and a cliched sterotype of "southern". And Sandra Lee with her ode to packaged, canned and processed food only proves that if your spouse has enough money you too can get your own TV show. (She's married to the owner of KB Homes, a major home builder NOB).

Do check out Alton Brown and Iron Chef. Alton's show Good Eats if pretty interesting and Iron Chef is a hoot. Love watching Mario Batali compete.

But you know what, when FTV first came to my town I was thrilled too and watched it enthralled at what they were doing. So explore their show options and enjoy it. Some of the shows are actually fun, several of their hosts are a little too overexposed for their own good.

We haven't had a tv in years. I didn't realize what my culinary know-how was missing. http://images.scrippsweb.com/...11/rachel_ray9_e.jpg
Just one important, relevant question: can she cook Mexican food?

I happened to watch Ms. Ray on TV last night for the first time. I loved how this twelve year old talked about all her years in the food business. It was most impressive.

My wife loves her and I have to say, her smile makes one enjoy watching her regardless of what she's talking about. Last night, it was Chattanooga. I now have to go there.

I do wish that on her $40 per day, she would tip more than ten cents per meal.

Well, if I'm going to be a male chauvinist, I may as well go all the way. Let's see, perky, cute girl next door Rachael Ray making quicky meals--or classy, classical Giada De Laurentiis making great Italian. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!! NO CONTEST!!

By the way, Food-HD did become live on Dish Network this afternoon.

Tim, if you've gotta pick one I hope it's Giada. Even I like Giada :-D and she really can cook.

And Mr. Lyman, you're right, Rachel Ray is a lousy tipper. But apparently perky sells and next month she starts he own network talk show, sponsored and produced by none other than Oprah. First she unleashed Dr. Phil, now Rachel Ray. God help us..........TV is a bigger wasteland than we ever imagined.

And what exactly is it about Giada that the men don't care for? Mama mia...Italian chef beats perky cheerleader any day, in my book.

No, no.........most men do prefer Giada :-) or at least most of the men who cross my path do. She is, BTW, the granddaughter of Dino de Laurentis.

If you can get your cooking show in high definition, perhaps the hair in the soup will be easier to spot.

I recommend Channel 11 Mexican educational television for its in-studio cooking shows and traveling campesino cooking lessons. When they try to get fancy around here it is hilarious but their country cooking shows are educational and delighful folk art.
