Customs Broker - San Diego

Can't Post | Private Reply
I obtained my FM-3 and Menaje de Casa at the Seattle Consulate. I'm now in San Diego with my pick-up and utility trailer hoping to cross this Friday heading to La Paz. But I'm stuck on finding a customs broker here who handles Menaje de Casa. Has anyone used a customs broker here? Are they really necessary crossing into Baja? Does anyone have names or numbers for brokers here? Thanks.

We crossed at Tijuana in March with the Menage de Casa for my wife's FM3, but only had a completely filled SUV. We did it ourselves and had no problem. You might just make a list of items and go to the border. If they turn you back, you have a problem. Otherwise you don't. We had completely spaced out and forgot to make a list. They let us through anyway - probably figuring we were to dumb to do it correctly.

You might have a problem finding a customs broker who wants to bother with such a small deal unless your utility trailer is really big.

I had a friend who used to cross at Tijuana taking loads of stuff to the orphanage he supported near Rosarita Beach. He never had any problems either, though that was a few years ago.

Thanks for the encouraging reply. I do have my list, and the Seattle consulate has approved and stamped it. But they were the ones who said I needed a customs broker. I will head to the border tomorrow alone and see what happens. Again, thanks for helping to calm my nerves somewhat. I appreciate it.

Good luck on your trip to La Paz. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do Ajijic.
