This is the second largest lake in Mexico, and it's much larger than appears from the highway. It's about thirty miles wide, surrounded by agricultural land, and there are salt mines on the southeast side. It's definitely not dried up. Santa Ana Maya, Huandacareo, and Cuitzeo border the lake. Flying over the lake or even taking the cuota east from Morelia offers up a much better view of the size of this lake than what you'll see simply driving over the north-south causeway.
