And now for the state of Guanajuato..... For a traveler who has but three days for the entire state, what itinerary would you suggest?

That's not much time, but how about a day seeing the sights in Guanajuato and two days spoiling yourself rotten at a top rated B&B in San Miguel? You know, the kind with the roof top jacuzzis and a view? aaaaah.

Hello,

3 days in Guanajuato State. 1 day in Guanajuato City, overnight there; head for Dolores Hidalgo for your history lesson, spend a short time there and then on to San Miguel de Allende to overnight. Then a day in San Miguel de Allende overnighting there again, and off to the next stop the next morning. Unless San Miguel de Allende calls you for more time, as it will.

If the traveller is not interested in Mexico's history, a good alternative would be to spend all three days in San Miguel de Allende. It would take that much time just to look at the marvelous architecture of the buildings and to pull your wife out of all the shops.

Adios. jerezano.

I think Celaya has a lot of treasures that are not well known. They have some churches and historical sites plus a very fine spa in Apaseo el Grande. The Gran Hotel Campestre is in Celaya. Several very good restaurants, the California..not the chain, has prime beef..Terranova has international cuisine. The artist, Ocampo, is from here. They are known for cajeta and paper mache. The wood carver's village, Apaseo el Alto is near by. In San Jose Iturbide there is the Mansion Diezmo ? which is a restored storage warehouse in the center of town that accomodates lots of Colgate Palmolive folk and politicos.Good food and nice rooms...Near by is Pozos ,,a ghost town with a hotel and art gallery and the mines. Stretch your boundries..it doesn't take much to find really interesting things in Mexico.

Tell me more about that B&B in San Miquel. I want to go during the week when things are open but a little less crowded than on the weekend.

Hi, Mike-
First, a disclainmer: I haven't seen this place. But....friends stayed at the Villa Scorpio and enjoyed it greatly, roofdeck tub or jacuzzi and all.
Another nice place, which I have seen, is the Villa Jacaranda. Also has jacuzzi or hot tub on roof, good food, great location near the beautiful Juarez Park and the prices are not outrageous. They have a website, with photos and rates.
Check out the Portal San Miguel website. More places and pictures.
Midweek is a good choice.
Enjoy.

Casa Shook, Casa Luna, Villa Santa Monica, Jacaranda Hotel, Casa Granada, are a few of the B andB's in SMA. There is a very fine one north of the Jardin I can't remember the name. The middle of the week is calmer than the week ends.

I endorse the Jerezano's plan for someone who feels that they MUST see as much as possible in a short time.

An alternative that I would suggest would be the whole time in the city of Guanajuato. Guanajuato is full of history, it is a unique place, one of my favorites.
