Hola Rolly,

I was watching a TV piece on India and for quite sometime I thought eating with tortillas as scoops with the fingers was something kind of indigenous to Mx and inhabitants.

Not so, the Indians have no scoops except the fingers. They sit on the floor, kind of a lotus position and its all fingers, straight up. And Boy do they work at it with fervor.

I guess customs vary throughout the world and those who are a bit worldlier probably have a window with more interesting stories or insights.

A country’s indigenous customs, like perhaps always relaxing themselves on floors for a sitting position and dinning as well, seems a bit odd when unaccustomed but then again why should we judge.

Personally the flavor of these indigenous traits color mankind, as is. You can just watch them, enjoy them or judge them at will if you feel that is your roll. Personally, just witnessing life is a lot more fun. Laugh

Grub is coming up...It is a mystery why only the spoons are stolen off some of the
signs...Maybe it has something to do with the pile of 6,307 spoons found in the
middle of a small town.

Hmmm, a Freudian Inkblot?
Flying Saucer after impact with large truck?
If that is the case 95% chance it was on a curve.
Tortilla?
HA!
Or is that a photo snapped from 1 mile up showing the
missing road signs?

I do eat freshly made - wheat - tortillas (filled as breakfast tacos) for breakfast almost every weekday in my "Mexican" part of the USA. I eat corn tortillas (boxed as regular tacos) as tacos as an easy snack or dinner.
I love good European artesanial bread (Italian, German, French) but in here it is not available, so I eat it only in Europe or visiting my daughter in Atlanta or my friends in Austin. Tortillas - which they can make here in Corpus - are a lot better than American style bread.

We use whole wheat tortillas for breakfast sometimes and once in a while for quesadillas. We eat corn tortillas only in restaurants or homes of friends. I'm still a whole wheat bread lover (and rye when I can find it).

Suegra makes her own tortillas (grinds the maiz or wheat) or buys from a local. We eat tortillas everyday ranging from blue, wheat, corn to flour. We also eat whole wheat or multi grain bread. Not sure I will continue the tortilla eating once I move on my own. You have to find the right flavor and texture you like...so that itself might take me time.

But not too long. Eh

Claudia, where ever I go (in Mexico) I just check out the old/oldest ladies, they make the best hand made tortillas.

They would be proud to give/show you (in secret) their method, if you are discrete and whisper your desire to make the best tortillas you have ever tasted.

Con Permiso: Try this site:

Also the latest printed version of People's Guide to Mexico has some very good recipes from Steve Rogers, including both corn and flour tortillas. In the back of the book.
