House Lust in San Miguel de Allende.....and, of course, elsewhere

Can't Post |
This afternoon, over lunch with the latest copies various San Miguel de Allende real estate magazines, I felt a certain kinship with the old men who drool over what aren't the articles in Penthouse and Playboy. House porn, you know. The first big ad that caught my attention was Rancho los Labradores, http://www.rancholabradores.com. Ah, the promise of horse stables and a fitness center! For a moment, I wondered whether this was San Miguel's version of Morelia's Tres Marias, http://www.tresmarias.com.mx, but when I learned out where the Golden Corridor was, my hopes were dashed. And the people in the party photos didn't exactly look like Town & Country models. Why, they were sort of overstuffed, Midwestern, and then finally, the mention of psoraisis in the monthly newsletter dashed the dream. So, what then is the ne plus ultra, the chi-chi of the chi-chiest in all of San Miguel, the club that wouldn't accept the likes of Groucho Marx?

And why is it that so many, or at least it seems, San Miguelenses keep talking about moving to Patzcuaro? Is there something I'm missing?

Los Labradores threw a party to inaugurate their new "opera house" and a cafe on Valentines Day. Free drinks and entertainment. Some of us went; curiousity and freebies will always get out a crowd.
It doesn't look much like the ad. They never do. From the brochures, all those new developments look like this is where the "right" people get to go instead of being bored in heaven.

It's all about being in The Golden Corridor. I'm still looking for the nuggets along the road. Darn. Sigh. Back to the Barrio where the likes of me obviously belong.

Los Labradores is a Mexican gated community. Built and occupied by Mexicans. They have a summer camp for Mexican children that is said to be very exclusive. The gated community that is also on the road to Delores Hidalgo is Candelaria..tennis club, large plots of land with lovely homes owned by English speaking folk. It is next to what is suppossed to be a new golf course with 5 star resort and individual homes. We shall see..this one may happen because I have been told it is well financed..

That may be so, but the ads in the Atencion show a lovely picture of an obviously Gringo older couple relaxing by the clubhouse. I think they may be trying to broaden their appeal. Ya think?

Gringal"

Maybe Gringos will be allowed by invitation, to the club area, if accompanied by a member.

I have not seen that ad since I am NOB but I was under the impression that the homeowners that were building there were from Mexico City and Monterey. I am glad they are broadening their base because we need less walls and more connections not divisions.

Gee, and all this time I thought that Los Labradores was a dog kennel and breeder, not a Mexican Sun City.
