Costa Alegre

Can anyone suggest an interesting place to spend a night or two, driving north on 200 from Barre de Navidad to Puerta Vallarta? We could leave 200, once it turns inland, and go to the beach to check out a nice town or interesting resort.

We love the little town of Punta Perula, about an hour and a half north of Melaque. Small town, one hotel on the beach and one on the main drag, couple of rv parks, 3 taco stands that are sometimes open, several palapa covered restaurants on the beach, 4 or 5 small tiendas, a fish store with 2 military macaws, and a few other businesses. A 2 bit town with a million dollar beach. See it while you can, I'm sure it will be developed one of these days. It's on the north end of Chamela Bay, the turnoff is marked on 200 and it is about 3 miles from the highway to the town.

Yes, go to Spark's board. He and Nan are on the ground in that area and recently there was a discussion on that very topic.

However if anyone here was considering a stay at Tamarindo, a resort located on the Costa Alegre, they've likely lost that chance.

Yellowstone Club World, a collection of nine resort locations including two French chateaux, a private golf course in Scotland now has Tamarindo, a former Starwood golf resort north of La Manzanilla, Jalisco Mexico.

Established by billionaire timber magnate Timothy Blixseth, the resort is affiliated with the Yellowstone Club, an exclusive ski and golf site in Big Sky, MT. Blixseth has hired longtime Hilton executive Dieter Huckestein to run Yellowstone Club World, where memberships sell for $3 million to $4.5 million and will cap at 150. Annual dues are $75,000.

Current members of the Yellowstone Club can buy Club World memberships for the relative bargain price of $1.5 million to $2.25 million.

Tamarindo sounds a bit rich for my budget. Think we will head for Punta Perula - more my style.

You might be well-served to ask if a restaurant or Inn is open during the summer months - many close up shop in the "off-season". This is true in Melaque, although there are still a number that stay open..you won't starve...=^..^=.
