El (Ella) se me hace raro(a).

He (She) seems strange to me.

Hello,

Please don't forget the accents on él, Él (he, He) to distinguish from el (the). Of course the context will usually make that distinction clear to you, but not always. And, unfortunately, you won't always run into the accents when reading either.

But as my first Spanish teacher used to say some 20 years ago, "Debes aprender lo que es correcto".

Re: [jerezano] Acentos diacríticos y mayúsculas

Can't Post |

Thanks, Esperanza.
So there's nothing that quite carries the weight of "creeps"?

I found this for you:
"dar asco a alguien", "ponerle la piel de gallina a alguien"
I hope it helps...

And not all of us have keyboards that allow for accents. RE: "Gives me the creeps", "me hace sentir incomodo(a)" (makes me uncomfortable) "me cae gordo(a)" (I don't like him(her)

"Me da asco." He/she makes me sick.

"Me pone la piel de gallina." He/she gives me goose bumps.

I may be mistaken, but I believe every keyboard has the capacity to send accents - using alt key in combination with number keys - eg. holding down Alt, while pressing 164 on the number pad should get you ñ - there are several previous threads on this forum with details.
Other common ones (depending on precise keyboard settings) are
Alt 130 = é
Alt 160 = á
Alt 163 = ú

Tony, I think that only works if you have a number keypad on your computer, which I do not.

It works on some laptops, but not all. That's why I started another thread on a solution that works on all computers.

Don't think there are many of those around any longer! Most laptops have number functions in tiny (green, almost invisible) print in the middle of the keyboard - with laptops, you need Alt+Function+number. But I'm sure you're right, there are some keyboards without number functions.
Most word processing programs also allow you to insert letters with accents, though this means you have to compose your message with a word processor, and then copy and paste into a forum post.

Yes, Tony, the number pad functions are there, but they don't always work with the ALTnnn scheme. I have a new, top-of-the-line Dell that does not work.

I'm kind of interested in that one. 'He falls fat to me' ? I can kind of see it but not really.

I know, if you translate it literally it sounds weird, but that happens a lot. "Me cae gordo" is an expression which means I don't like him, or He rubs me the wrong way. Now if you translate "he rubs me the wrong way" literally, in Spanish it sounds erotic. So you can't go by that.

Hello Doogie and others,

>>>quote And not all of us have keyboards that allow for accents.<<<< end quote.

Anybody who has a computer, whether laptop, desktop, or otherwise that runs on any form of Windows from 98 on through to XP has a built-in International Keyboard which will automatically (two fingers necessary) place accute acents on all the vowels including the dierisis over the ü Ü. áéíóú ÁÉÍÓÚ. I have posted the instructions on how to find that International Keyboard for Win98, Win 2000, WinME and Win XP here on the forum already. If you can't find out how to do it, give me a private e mail. But I would suggest first you just look for those instructions.

It IS a bit hard to find the International Keyboard on Windows XP. But it is there--just keep looking.

By using the International Keyboard it is not necessary to change languages and keyboard layout. A blessing if you are a touch typist on a standard USA keyboard with the qwerty layout.

I have not yet found that caapability on my mac but I will keep looking. I can't imagine them not putting it there.

Adios. jerezano.

Thank you, Jerezano. Since I posted that Rolly gave me a website that allows me to download a program that will enable me to the accents (á) and even to the upside down (¿¡) marks to begin a statement. I appreciate the help I get everyday from this wonderful service.
