Hard water stains

Well, this is really mundane after all the car talk, but about a month ago, when the seasonal spring from which I usually get my water went dry til the rainy season, I switched over to the "city" water from the nearest village. I'm thinking THIS may be the true Village of the Damned, because now all white porcelain fixtures, especially the big one, have begun to show rust stains. Can anyone suggest a Mexican product which will remove them? I can't use anything too harsh, because the black water goes into a French drain and ultimately reaches some ornamental trees. Any help appreciated!

I have used dental cleaner tablets to remove rust from the toilet and tub. Just drop a couple in the water of the toilet bowl and leave over night. I don't reuse the water for anything, though.

If you look on the Home, Garden and Construction forum - there is a discussion about "tile cleaning". Someone mentions pumice stones as a possible solution. You might review that discussion

Hey Camille,

Look for a product that has Oxalic Acid in it. You can usually buy it at a hardware store here in the states in the paint department. It's sold as "wood bleach". We use oxalic acid solution in our nursery to remove rust stains from our plants. The creek where we get our water is loaded with iron and iron bacteria and in the summer it stains everything.
