driving from Laredo to Playa Del Carmen

we are planning a trip to the Playa Del Carmen/Akumal area. Would be interested to know the best routes to take to get there the quickest(traveling with my dogs and won't have time for much sightseeing on the way there)with the best road conditions. And also if anyone can give me names of motels that allow pets. I have 2 30/35 lb. dogs that will be along for the ride. Thanks for any and all help. JHC
