There was a thread a while back, about flying to Veracruz. I've done this a number of times, and my wife and I find we prefer flying direct to Veracruz from Houston on Continental. While at peak times (Xmas, Carnivale) it can be expensive, at other times it's very reasonable. I just booked a round trip from Chicago for US$422, whereas to Mexico City it's US$380. Just from the time and hassle factor it's well worth it. Drawback: the flight arrives at 11:00 p.m. and the return leaves at 7:00 a.m. But it's not really that late, you can get to the portales by midnight when the night is far from over. The Parroquia is usually open too. Let me introduce myself, this is my first post. My name is Michael McLaughlin, I play the trumpet and teach in Chicago, and my wife Eva is from Mexico. Her mother and sister moved to Veracruz from Mexico City about ten years ago, and we are planning to do the same in a year or so. It's my favorite place in Mexico, not the least because of the music. I just joined Mexico Connect a couple of days ago and it is a terrific resource. I look forward to talking to everyone as time goes on. We'll be in Veracruz for a couple weeks in April, visiting and scouting around.
