Rightly said. However she should have been watching what was going on around her. I don't know of a mother or father that would spend money on doing laundry before feeding kids that haven't eaten. That should have been a sign that something was amiss.

Yes, as per DoDi's post she should have realized that decent folks don't ask complete strangers for handouts.

Hello, all. I am a relative of a former high-level government person in an African country. I have a large sum of money that I need to get out of the country. I will deposit it in your bank account and share it with you if you will only send me $X,XXX and all your personal information. I accept all major credit cards. ;>}

Well I just received a nasty letter from the husband about my post here of their information, which happens to be public information. He threatens to post it here. Anyone else get a nasty letter?

Actually he now knows where I live in Canada and is threatening to come here when they get back. The letter was very threatening, so much so that he had to point out he wasn't threatening me.

Now curious point is...how did they get access to Mexconnect to read all of our posts, and he also says he is going to post his letter to me. He plans to post it here in this forum.

So who is giving them access to this site...assuming that they don't have the money to join?

And who is going to let them use their ID so that these people can post a nasty letter?

Very very strange people. Really makes one wonder. If anyone else received one of these threatening letters I would appreciate a PM.

No, no nasty letter but I say let him post it here. I agree with DoDi2, I'd like to hear the "rest of the story." Any thinking person would not be surprised with us being skeptical. After all, we hear "rip off" stories all the time. If he wants to vindicate himself then let him post away....

Jean, he's probably just "blowing smoke". As others here have mentioned, let him come aboard and make his pitch. I think he'll be very disappointed with his responses.

Fascinating. Here we have people who are posting their plea all over the place about what nice folks they are and why someone should help them. Then, a nasty letter because somebody turned over the rock and discovered a few more details.

I, too, would like to know who's subsidizing their trip to Mexconnect.

Gringal

It's only $30 USD, right? That's how he got access. Credit card: buy now, pay later.
Maybe he was already a member/subscriber, and has been lurking until now.

I doubt that it was by winning one of Alex's "Where Am I?" contests.

Well, if no one's subsidized it then I propose we take up a collection.

Since he said he was going to post the letter to me on this site, I'll do it for him. Just how was I supposed to interpret this:

This content of this post has been deleted at the request of the author of the letter, since the poster did NOT have the express permission of the author of the letter to post on his behalf.
Please note that MXC will NOT make exceptions to this rule. Please do not post on other people's behalf.
Thanks, Tony

To set the record straight:
a one week trial subscription allows anyone to read the postings, but not to post.
A monthly subscription is US$5 a month; an annual sub. is US$30.

Dear Stuck In Mexico,

Re: [promatura] Need your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Reply To
Seeking People for a Conversation About Their Experiences in Purchasing a Home and Moving to Mexico
I’m a researcher who studies 55+ consumers. We are working on a research project to learn about people who have purchased or are purchasing a residence in Mexico and live full or part-time in Mexico. I would like to have about an hour discussion with you at a local eatery on Thursday, February 2, 2006, sometime between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
I’m interested in your history with Mexico, why you decided on Ajijic, how you made the decision to purchase a residence and other questions along that line.
I would like to talk with a few people at a time, so if you have other American or Canadian friends who have purchased a home and would like to spend about 1 ½ hours in a discussion about your experiences, please give me their names as well.
We will pay you a small honorarium ($25) for your participation in the discussion.

Just an idea.

I like Anonimo's idea so much that I'm inspired to try it myself.

Kind readers:

I need $5,000 USD so I can enter the marlin tournament at Barra de Navidad next January and spend a week at the Grand Bay sipping champagne cocktails and munching chateaubriand with filthy rich owners of gigantic yachts. I could manage the $5,000 on my own, but if I can get you nice folks to pay for it, why shouldn't I? In return, I'll email you a photo of the fish I catch, should I indeed catch one.

Desperately yours,
GA
