Shortly we will be traveling by car from Puerto Vallarta via Guadalajara, Morelia,to Puebla and Oaxaca
We prefer nice accommodations and we travel with two very small dogs, thats where we need help.
We will not be staying over night until we arrive in Morelia there we have no problem of accommodations it is in Puebla and Oaxaca that we need help.
All responses will be apreciated

Here is a helpful website http://gringodog.home.comcast.net/pet-friendly.htm, but it does not list Puebla nor Oaxaca.

Thanks Rolly but on the web site that you referred to there is no mention of Places to stay in both places that I need information on Puebla and Oaxaca.

Thanks for the reference. We just traveled from Ajijic to Cozumel without our dogs. It was heaven not to have to worry about them. We were even able to stay in great hotels in the center of cities all along the way. However, we will be traveling north at the end of the month and will need places to stay that allow pets.

What we have done to now is just sneak them in and stay incognito. However, we would like to travel comfortably and take our time.

Will check out the reference, but does anyone have any suggestions for places along the way from Guad to San Diego where we can legally keep our pets without hiding them?

We drove down here from San Francisco via Nogales and Highway 15. We had three large mastiffs and two cats with us. We were able to find pet friendly motels in the U.S. but not even one Mexican motel we called would agree to take pets. What you do is start out early and start looking for lodging about 3:00PM so you are not taking a chance of sleeping in your car. Take along at least one dog cage if you can fit it in your car. When you see a decent motel on the outskirts of a town, stop and ask if they will take you with your pets. They will probably say no. Be respectful of the clerk who holds the ticket to a good night's sleep. If they do balk initially, exhibit a moderately desperate air as in, "Oh dear, where shall we spend the night?" - that sort of thing. We spent nights on the road in San Carlos, Navajoa and Tepic, no sweat, taking this approach.

Mexican motel employees find it quite easy to turn you down over the telephone but face-to-face they are as likely as not to take pity on you and relent. If they don't, you have stopped early enough in the day to try again farther on down the road.

If you try to sneak in your pets and are discovered, do not be surprised if you get kicked out in the middle of the night - especially if your dog(s) put up a racket when you go out to dinner.

So Bubba What happened? Did you let your cats and dogs sleep in the car and you and your wife slept in the motel? I ask because in the next couple of months I will also be driving into Mexico with cats and dogs in the car and want to see how others deal with this. d

Thay are all house broken and slept in the room with us. We made a show of taking the dog kennel into the room on one occasion but never used it. Our dogs are huge mastiffs not given to yapping so they made no noise. The large kennel was mainly for show. If we had had a yapper and had been going into town for dinner, we would have taken them in the car with us.

Good afternoon Rolly. I still need help for accommodations in Puebla and Oaxaca .
For the people that are traveling North with their pets if they are traveling North on Mexico highway 15 from Puerto Vallarta where we live, here are a couple of places we stay with our two small dogs.
In Mazatlan Motel Los Arcos ave Playas Gaviotas no.214 Zona Dorado phone 669 913 50 66 In Navojoa Best Western Hotel Del Rio phone 642 425 5300 the hotel is located just off the highway on the North side of town west side. The big problem that we find that a lot of travelers that travel with pets need to understand that they need to be sure that their pets do not disturb other residents during their stay if they do so it puts a dark cloud on the ability for future residents and their pets. Have you tried vrbo.com OR bbonline.com OR lodgingsinternational.com ??
At my B&B in Queretaro, I just can't take animals because there is no walking on any grass there is around. I just hate that because we love animals. I would suggest looking for places on the outskirts of a town. Good luck.

Thanks for the Mazatlan reference. We are looking for a place to stay there with pets. We have also stayed at the Del Rio in Navajoa with our pets. It is a nice place with a good restaurant and nice green lawn for the pets.

We stayed in an interesting place in Caborca. When we arrived in the evening, I walked my dog by the guard. We spoke briefly and I went on my way. The next morning, the same thing except that he informed me that dogs were not allowed in the rooms. I thanked him and took the dog to the car, which we were about to load for our trip anyway.

The perfect solution. I got to keep my dogs in the room overnight. He got to exert his authority to let me know that it was not allowed. If I had known then what I know now, I would have given him a nice propina for his courtesy.

There is a Holiday Inn but I don't know if they take animals. Why don't you call the chain and ask them for the Holiday Inn in Queretaro?

You can stay in the "Hot Sheet" motels with pets and some of them are very nice. They are the motels with the garage doors that it is difficult to see in the entrance. I have friends who do the Mexican Show Dog shows in Mexico and that is where they stay. The Azteca motel -outside Queretaro- might take dogs. They have been there for years..on highway neat Jurica exit on the opposite side of Juricilla and Jurica.

I doubt it but who knows in Mexico??They have another more sophisticated name but I can not remember it. They are pretty obvious and all over Mexico.

Bud, I may have been hasty in my prior post. Maybe you really don't know what these motels are.

"Hot sheets" motels--another way of saying moteles de paso--are just roadside motels, stopping places for couples in need of a rendezvous hideaway. They charge by the hour, not by the night. They usually have a garage attached to each room so that the driver can pull in, close the garage door, and no one is aware that...OMG, Senator So-and-So is in there with someone who is not Mrs. Senator So-and-So! Or conversely, no none needs to know that Mrs. Senator So-and-So is having a nooner with Senator So-and-So's right-hand man.

Most of these moteles de paso are privately owned and are highly unlikely to have websites. You'd have to know the name of the individual motels. In fact, if you'd like to Google for a couple of them, I know the names of two on the Guadalajara/Chapala highway: Motel Ernie and Motel Vienna.

In a PM, another MexConnect-er suggested that the AAA would have to invent a whole new vocabulary of symbols to rate these motels. Little round beds, satin sheets, ceiling mirrors, Viagra pills and free whipped cream?

Many of these places are quite nice. Some are cheap, some expensive.

Not all charge by the hour. Some charge by the day (or night). Often you can arrange a longer stay. I spent a week in one when I first moved to Mexico and my house was not ready for me. It cost me $150 pesos per day.

They also provide good security for your car which can be important when moving.

Pets are less likely to be an issue than at hotels.

These places are not necessarily adultery motels. Many homes house several generations of family, and privacy is often hard to come by. So these motels are often that only place a married couple can go for privacy.

No I am not looking to have the best post for 2006 ,I am just trying to find a decent place where my wife, myself and two small ShihTzu dogs can spend a couple nights.
So far I have found a place in Oaxaca but still need a place in Puebla.
I have posted on this forum and Guerro, Oaxaca and Chiapas. don't be surprised to see an inquire on the general forum.
In the United States there is no problem in finding a place to stay with small pets, but here in Mexico it is a different story.
Unfortunately there are a lot of us that treat or pets like our children and we just have to have them with us.

They are getting more popular and people are beginning to think outside the box, beyond what they were originally designed for. A good example - I heard that Sr. Palomares was going to use the one being built next to his house as sort of a "guest room" when he receives out-of-town visitors. He isn't partial to noise really and this sounds the perfect solution. Always thinking, that guy.
