El Pargo restaurant

I made my trip to Guadalajara. Thanks to all who made suggestions but as I found out, my Mexican friends made all the plans.

Anyway--they took me to a great seafood restaurant--El Pargo-- in Zapopan. It has now become my favorite seafood restaurant (away from the beach areas) in Mexico--even better than Contra Mar in DF. Incredible shrimp, excellent salmon. Beautiful environment (I was told the Zapopan branch is the best of the four in Guad.) terrific service--and very reasonable prices. A special shrimp meal was only 130 pesos--the salmon about 95.

(I realize no one wants to hear this but I just can't resist sharing.)

Circa 1981, El Pargo was a tent with tables and benches on Av. Federalismo where the young creative set from Guide Magazine would dine on payday. It was well worth the splurge, even on our meager budgets.

I'm thrilled to see how well they've done.
