There will be a Colonial Home (mansion) Tour on October 31st, 2005. The tour will begin from the Basilica at 11 a.m. and go to El Refugio - Hector Bustamante's home - on Serrato, then to the Leal family home near the museum, down to La Casa del Gigante on the PG, over the Monsignor Diego's home on Dr. Coss and then finish at La Casa Grande on the other side of the PG (from C del Gigante). The tours will consist of 5-10 people. A representative from each of the organizations to benefit from the tour (Casa Hogar Tata Vasco and Niños de Patzcuaro) will be at the Basilica to sell tickets and answer questions about their projects. **La Casa Hogar Tata Vasco provides food, shelter and schooling to 25 disadvantaged and orphaned children ranging in ages from 5 to 13. In addition the children receive services and programs for health, social interaction and empowerment. The casa hogar is primarily dependent on community support and some government funding. Many local businesses assist by providing monthly contributions of meat, bread, etc. for the homes. The "patronato," or board of directors responsible for the home are continually seeking additional support to provide shelter, education, and a quality of life for the children that is not provided in their own homes. **Los Niños de Patzcuaro - is a Saturday afternoon program which provides a meal and a few hours of diversion - games, crafts, movies and guidance to disadvantaged children. And, yes, I will be one of the tour guides.
