Hey folks--if you've been in Mexico for more than a day or so, you've probably noticed that it's very difficult to find a good source of wine in this country, particularly in a restaurant or bar. We are thinking about forming a sort of wine buying club here in GTO in order to be able to buy wine from larger distributors or directly from wineries, in order to expand our selections. We'd be interested in hearing from other folks who might be interested in joining us in this venture. To kick things off, we are doing a wine-tasting event here in Guanajuato city this Friday Oct. 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. We'll be tasting wines from two Mexican producers--Bodegas Santo Tomas from Baja, and Freixenet from Queretaro. Both of them make very good wine for a modest price, in our opinion anyway. The event will be held at the Galeria Capelo on Calle Positos No. 69, between the Casa/Museo Diego Rivera and the Alhondiga. (Just above Plaza San Fernando and Plaza San Roque.) This is not a profit-making event but is intended to introduce people to some of Mexico's fine wines, which very few people know of. The ticket price of 50 pesos will cover event expenses. Whether or not you can come or not, if you're interested in joining us in setting up a GTO/SMA area wine club, send us a message to vinoclubgto@gmail.com or call 473-738-0866 (cell.) Thanks!
