Auto Warranty in Mexico

Can't Post | Private Reply
I went out to buy a new Chrysler today and they told me that the warranty is good only in the continental US. Does anyone know of any auto available in the US that honors their warranties in Mexico?

Thanks, Tom

I heard Toyota did, but don't quote me on it.

Thanks. I will check it out. I was interested in a Sienna Van anyway!

Don't know where you'll be in Mexico, but Toyota has a beautiful dealership in Queretaro where we were treated royally. Our pickup is out of warranty, but the prices were very reasonable.

Before buying our Sienna last year, I emailed Toyota with the warranty question. The reply was that if we were travelling in Mexico and needed warranty repair work, it could be done in Mexico. I think the idea is that the warranty will be honored if we are tourists - I'm not sure how it would work if we are residents of Mexico.

I was impressed at even getting a reply and suggest that you try the email route yourself - then you can print out the reply and keep it in the vehicle - just in case!

My 2001 Ford Explorer's US warranty was honored in Mexico.

Well then perhaps Ford/mercury is the answer. I have a town car now and was worried that with all the bells and whistles, I would have a problem getting the necessary repairs done. Was going toget something basic.
Thanks for info.

Mexican mechanics can fix anything and keep it running forever. And their labor is inexpensive. The problem may be in getting parts which may not be inexpensive if they have to be ordered from the USA or another country.

While I agree, that may not be the best option for someone who is thinking about buying a new car. If our car was a lot newer I'd be bringing it to the dealership instead of to my local shade tree mechanic.

I also wonder whether the proliferation of computers in the newer cars will limit the local mechanic's ability to tinker with them.

It has been our experience, that while warranties may not be honored, any official recalls will be. I had two taken care of no charge on a PT Cruiser and had confirmed another two did not apply to my Jeep Wrangler. You can do a basic check on line and can confirm for a specific vehile with the VIN number at a dealer.

Greetings,
According to Ford Motor Company in the US, they advise that Ford Motor warranties are honored in Mexico and Mexican Ford warranties are honored in the US.

We live near the huge GM plant between Guanjuato and Silao.... There are several good dealerships in the area. I have taken my Tahoe
(still under warranty) to the GM dealer a few blocks away. They told me that they would do the work, I must pay, then send the receipt and repair paperwork to GM (or the U.S. dealership I bought it from) for reimbursement. Did that and it worked. Got same story from dealer in Leon. Maybe at dealers whim??
