After Move, Can I Sell Utility Trailer NOB

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hi,

I have searched for the answer to this, but couldn't find it. I know that if I bring in a utility trailer filled with our household items, the trailer is linked to my car papers and I cannot sell it in Mexico legally. I also read that, if and when we leave Mexico permanently, we must bring the trailer with us. My question is this... when we complete the move, can we drive back up to the border and sell the trailer NOB and then cross back over without it? If so, how would we get the trailer "removed" from the car paperwork? We really don't want to use up our garage space storing the trailer, and I have read that it would most likely ""disappear" if parked in front of our house. We had thought, before reading the posts, that we would buy a trailer NOB and then sell it SOB after the move, but that is not possible.

Thank you

Esteban

I don't know about selling it SOB but if you decide to go NOB and sell it, just turn in your papers and get new ones on the trip back.

I have been using my enclosed utility trailer as a bodega (storage area) for the past 3 years since my original move. It has proven invaluable for that purpose, and it will always be available for future moves, if nesessary. I just recently returned to the states after 2 years, unplanned originally, and brought in a second "load". Of course, I do have interior walled parking for my trailer for security. I have even toyed with the idea of some day converting mine into a camper. I would think twice about getting rid of your trailer. Keep in mind that trailers are sometimes storable at campgrounds and also at storage unit facilities. I am not doing it, but I actually found a campground at a town about 60 miles from where I live, that would store a trailer for US$25/mo. These trailers can prove useful in the future, and have other uses besides moving.
