Still getting a couple of spam messages a day in my Mexconnect mail box. I guess this new version with all the area chenges didn't fix the spam problem. I really like Spam but not this kind of sapm.

Anybody else getting them also?

My spam is terribly boring. I get about two per day always from a different phony entity, but really from the same source. These spam give reports about different stocks. I never use this email address, so I don't think my address was picked up somewhere else using Harvesting software. Rather I guess a random user-name generator came up with same and simply attached said name to the domain name.

For some reason my spam is gone, at least none in the last three days. Something happened for the good it seems.

Yes Pete, it was very uninteresting stuff.

I guess the folks at Mex Connect tightened up their Spam control. I haven't received any spam since 8-31-05.

I hate to admit it but my Gmail account does a splendid job at winnowing out the spam from real content.

There are enormous privacy implications with using Gmail, however, their ability to help you deal with spam almost makes it worth it.

They index everybody's email. The power of that is truly frightening. Whether it's insider trading or blackmail or whatever, this is an enormous resource for unscrupulous people.

I'm not saying they're doing it now. But the history of power is that it will always be exploited, sooner if not later.

Then there is the fact that they archive your queries. Think about how personal search engine queries can be. They essentially reflect whatever you happen to be thinking about at the moment.

So they have the opportunity to know what you're thinking, and know what which of those thoughts you are communicating, not just via email, but over instant messaging too now. With maps.google they know where you are and where you are going. They know what news I'm reading and what stocks I own and when I wake up and when I go to sleep.

And then get to compare all of this information with everyone else who uses their services, which means that, in some ways, they know me better than I know myself.

But hey, if it means less spam...

Gmail has its purposes, although I would not recommend using it for anything remotely important. See http://www.abanet.org/genpractice/ereport/june05/survivingemail.html

Yes, that is a good use for Gmail, what with being able to search through the tons of messages any decent mailing list generates.

No privacy issues either.
