They index everybody's email. The power of that is truly frightening. Whether it's insider trading or blackmail or whatever, this is an enormous resource for unscrupulous people. I'm not saying they're doing it now. But the history of power is that it will always be exploited, sooner if not later. Then there is the fact that they archive your queries. Think about how personal search engine queries can be. They essentially reflect whatever you happen to be thinking about at the moment. So they have the opportunity to know what you're thinking, and know what which of those thoughts you are communicating, not just via email, but over instant messaging too now. With maps.google they know where you are and where you are going. They know what news I'm reading and what stocks I own and when I wake up and when I go to sleep. And then get to compare all of this information with everyone else who uses their services, which means that, in some ways, they know me better than I know myself. But hey, if it means less spam... To boldly go where no wig has gone before.
