Ham operators: I will be trying to contact family in Mississippi coastal areas after the hurricane. If telephones, cells, elec., e-mail, etc. are out for a period of time, will the ham opeators system be set up to gather family info as they so faithfully have done in hurricanes in the past? Please PM me if available. You guys are always a great help when people are in need -- thanks. eek.

I'm still up north (11 more days) or I could help you. There is a ham radio club that meets in Ajijic at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS). There is a base station at that site. I do not know whether it will be active or not. You might want to check with the folks at the LCS office to see if there is a contact #. Otherwise PM me and I can give you a name or two of the more knowledgeable members of the club.

I have seen reports that ham radio is being jammed in the NOLA area. Can any of you ham radio guys confirm this?

Sounds kooky I know, but given everything else we're seeing down there, nothing would surprise me at this point.
