Mazatlán Weather Site (complete with humidity and charts)

Thanks very much to my computer knowledgeable friend, Kirkswig, who has saved the day in Mazatlan. The owner of the website left town in a big fat hurry when the heat and humidity struck, leaving the rest of us in the dark to sweat (so to speak)with cables unplugged and other assorted foibles. Now we can once again view the webcam, see the temps and humidity and all the accompanying charts. Thanks again Don, so much, for doing us all this big favor. I used to think your Linux talk was boring, now I am a believer!! Henry mentioned Linux and I twigged. LOL

Kirkswig knows about Linux? I have been thinking about migrating to Linux again. I used to run it several years ago before it was even close to prime time. It's about time to get Linux back in and running. Windows just keeps getting slower and slower and slower. Let's talk about this.

Hehe, well, I noticed there was a thermostat control on Henry's weather station so I set it to 72 degrees so we should all have a nice, comfortable summer!

Oh wait, was that fahrenheit or celsius?

Oh boy.

I'm game. Let's hook up!

It's come a long way, but you still need to have an enthusiastic attitude about it or else the experience can be frustrating.

A lot depends on how well your hardware is supported, and which distro you pick too. I'm into Gentoo these days. It means you have to compile everything yourself, which can take a long time esp. on a slow machine, but it has the virtue of minimizing dependency issues and there is a forum on Gentoo that is simply too awesome for words... I can usually fix whatever problem I have in under five minutes by doing a simple search there. Ask a question and get an answer within the hour, usually.

That said, I've used other distros too, and they're all good, depending on what you want to do. Latest hot thing is ubuntu... Henry mentioned that he's checking it out.

I'll do a little research and see what flavor I want to run. I'd probably keep a small windows98 partition because it's like a security blanket. Eventually, I could migrate over and delete brother bills hoggy system and go for the lean and mean. I spent 18 hours without a break, in 1997, loading Linux. I wouldn't give up until it recognized everything and ran correctly. What a marathon but in the end, it was very rewarding. Yea, I'll get a hold of you and maybe we can drink a case of Indio and load up Linux.

Well it looks as if Maztravel's Peet Brothers weather station has some weather gremlins. Henry says this morning that it's gone back down. For "Peet"'s sake!

In for a penny, in for a pound. I told Henry I'm game for another go at it, but there's probably nothing left for me to do.

It runs for two hours and then stops dead. Huh.

Well at least let us know when you go back, because since Henry's office is online via webcam we can watch you while you work! What do you suspect is the problem there? It seems a mystery. Do I really want to know?

Henry thinks the problem is insurmountable at this point, so that's that. There is something wacky going on with his network in that office, if you'll note, the webcam isn't working either and seems to have died at the same time as the weather.

I told him I think it's the heat and humidity in that office. It takes its toll on electronics.

In other words, the weather killed the weather. Ha!

Anyways, I see he has a nice summary in place of the detailed meteorological data: hot and humid.

That's about right.
