Can someone tell me if we will have difficulty getting our piano past the border? Lyn and Paul Brier

Unless it is on your menaje de casa, you can expect to pay a duty. You are allowed a duty-free musical instrument, but I believe the rule says you must be able to carry it.

Rolly, thanks for the info. We are leaving tomorrow to come down to look at the construction on our house in Ajijic and meet with an immigration attorney. Any thoughts on what the duty would be on the grand? Lyn

The general rule is 17% of the value. The value is generally what you could expect to sell it for. I'll bet it has been a long time since the custom guy you'll be dealing has seen a baby grand. A written apraisal from a music store might be a help.
