Torx screw head tools

Can't Post | Private Reply
Has anyone come across (in Mexico) a place where to purchase screw drivers or bits for Torx head screws ?

I am attempting to remove the rear cover of my US made Panasonic microwave over, to clean out dust, since I can hear t he arcing inside, but there are two of these Torx screws that prevent me from removing the cover.

I know about the dangers of microwave ovens, I do not intend to operate (even to plug in the wall) the unit without all the covers back in place, nor do I intend to change anything, all I want is to vacuum the space where the magnetron resides.

Just to let you know. You are not being ignored. It's just we don't know the answer to your question. I had to go to Google even to figure out what a Torx Head Screw was.

I SURE HOPE there is someone out there who can help you.

Check Sears in Guad. as they will have a set of Torx screwdrivers that contain the three basic screwdrivers.

If I were looking for torx screwdrivers or heads here in Boise two of my stops would be Costco and Wal-Mart. They sell them in sets here. I don't, of course, know if they also carry them in their stores in Mexico. Another source here would be Radio Shack. Are there any stores there which cater to electornic hobbiests?

Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try Radio Shack and Wal-Mart here in Veracruz.

Oh, maaaan ... wish you luck. I don't live in Mexico (yet), but I'd go with Cynthia's advice. My experience with torx and other mutant interfaces (abroad and in the US) has been as follows:

* every unique gadget needs its own unique tool set (unspecified)
* salesfolks under 80 or so go "WTF??!!" and point you to a tool set
* tool sets almost never include the size(s) you need
* if they do, they cost more than the gadget you're trying to clean or fix (you know, like a $500 technician's kit to remove the cover of your $50 keyboard)
* if sold individually in the sizes you need, drivers are so cheap that they strip the screws and/or are actually hex or allen instead of torx

I've removed Torx head screws before using a small flat bladed screwdriver. It may not be easy but it sometimes does work. I've also purchased a small plastic bag of bits for the cordless screwdrivers that everyone seems to have these days and it contained Torx head bit. Try any hardware store that sells them.
