The article was published on May 17. Title: Niegan que Mexico tenga atractivos para la Migarcion". I found it on the Reforma site (www.reforma.com.mx) but you have to register to read it and the email registration doesn't seem to work--at least not for me.

Here in Ajijic, (oops I'm in WA far another month) there appear to be about as many single women as men. If there is a difference it's certainly not as high as was reported above, at least not where I hang out.

Ah yes, I acknowledge my role as the saboteur of the system of the great white father. And yes I realize that the census is supposed to create representation in congress. If only the concept of trickle down really affected me. Perhaps I lack your sense of entitlement as a white male.

You must be really bored to call me in.
And I must be equally bored to respond.

I am not personally criticizing anyone, but it is important I think, to remember that the US Federal census does more than just allocate the number of congressmen for each state. The census figures are also used to allocate Federal Revenue Sharing funds to each state by population.

It is probably more important to be counted if you live in an area that is losing population, it will mean less of a loss of Federal funds for your state, or district. If you live in an area that is gaining in population, being counted will mean more Federal money for your state, or district.

I have always thought it was simply a duty of being a US Citizen to assure that I and my family were always counted. Being a white male has nothing to do with it. Although I appear to be a white male, and I consider myself to be a white male, my maternal grandmother was an American Indian, I have ¼ degree of Indian blood, and I am an enrolled member of The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California. Everybody should get off the racial crap.

Ah, RexC, I could not have said it better. You are right, of course. Responding to the census is a responsibility. You go on to say:

I agree with that 100 percent, too. You are sharp. You must not live in San Miguel. (There is the Mexico tie to justify this posting.)

But, I must delve into the "racial crap" a moment more to brag about my blood! You are an Indian but I, in small part, am a Black Person! Yes, it´s true, in spite of what the fetching photo at left indicates. I pass. And if anybody wants to call me on it, feel free to buy a book, available from Amazon, about my beloved, black ancestor, Amanda America Dickson.

Woman of Color, Daughter of Privilege: Amanda America Dickson, 1849-1893, published in 1995 by the University of Georgia Press.

So, you PC, multicultural types, top that! I´m down in the ´Hood.

By the way, I am absolutely not making this up. She is my kin. Just ask my ole mama, 87, in Atlanta who heard about it as a child, long before the book came out.

Calling someone "honeybuns" is rude and crude, showing the rest of us a lot about your character, none of it pleasant.

Hi, cupcake,

Actually, I have referred to the charming Ms. Cuerva as Honeybuns in the past. She seemed to enjoy it! Lots of women are not crabby. And some of them pass days in San Miguel. After all, I was merely returning the charm because she initially had referred to me as Doll, or something like that, on a posting of hers. I forget exactly what it was she said. Yes, she started it!

But, it actually made my heart flutter for a moment. Yes, it did, even tho I have never laid eyes on the woman. She seems pretty OK, in spite of saying some really astounding things hereabouts on occasion.

So, there you have it. She has a sense of humor, plus her Granddaddy was Mexican ambassador to Guatemala, which means something. I do not detect your sense of humor, and I bet your granddaddy was no ambassador at all.

Just count me as one and I am more than willing to forget about the rest! I'm here. That's all that matters.

Well, you continue to display your character and it's no nicer than before. Being impressed by someone's grandparent being an ambassador is rather shallow. Nothing against the ambassador but I'm much more likely to be impressed by a decent and upright person who knows exactly who they are and does not need other people to boost their egos. Maybe the ambassador fell into that category, it would be nice to think so.

Actually he was a delightful man. Beloved by all long past his death. We continue to miss him. It was his humor, his certainty, his charisma. He always had many mistresses. They adored him! His wife who is in her 90's will never cease to suffer the loss of him. He was my uncle not my grandfather. And while I thank you for coming to the defense of my honor-the term is a little too referential- he's right , I did start it. El Negrito is a closet liberal and most of the time I find his wit tres amusant.

Don, I did mean inaccuracies. I know several of the people who were quoted inaccurately--and have told me so--in the article.
