We have plenty of time to die by inches in the old folk's home. Is there some need to speed up the process? I swear to God, if this is the level of discourse, let's just shoot ourselves now and get it over with.

Jesus, lighten up Bubba. At least it's a break from the constant barrage of "Pet Friendly Motel" posts.

Amen. Since it seems that our journey SOB will be mainly a vicarious one for a while, this forum and others have been a nice way to visit, to remember some of the sights, sounds and people we encountered earlier. But lately there has been a whole lot of yawner stuff. Isn't anything interesting going on down there? Aren't there some Mexican-y insights and factoids you can share with us? Please? Cat litter indeed. The world's full of sand.

OK, Skwala, I'm going to show you that we are, indeed, human here.

I must confess that I am highly irritated by the fact that that stupid lake refilled and took away vast beaches with beautiful trees that were a pleasure to walk daily with my babies (well, dogs) who could chase the cows and by God we could walk all the way from La Floresta to San Juan Cosala, a distance of about seven kilometers and then that useless lake refilled and killed all the trees and brought us the scourge of water lillies and now all I do is sit around moping and my dogs and I are getting fatter and fatter and the only alternative is to walk into Ajijic on those wretched cobblestone streets and you can't even walk into the brush and take a leak anymore and, furthermore, I have noticed that the level of discourse here has become more and more insubstantial and we don't even have the pleasure of moaning about the demise of the lake any longer but rather have to worry as to whether that huge cesspool will simply swallow us up and take away the few years we have left by God and that's all I've got to say for now.

If only the lake could speak for itself. "Useless"? "Cesspool"?
On the other hand, even D.H. Lawrence was once drawn to remark, according to Christopher Isherwood, that
‘The lake looks like urine.’ Perhaps he was in a bad mood, too?

1. Actually, I find the forum to be informative on many of these mundane, pedestrian issues. I have felt that it is a good place to ask these things....if this is not true...then perhaps those of you who seem to have a vested interest in the forum should let us poor uneducated foreigners know the rules that seem to have been constructed by the good-old-boys.
2. Perhaps you could spend time researching your spelling....succulent.

Suculent=Succulent

Coming from my early Spanish-language days communicating
with sign language(universal lanugage , no?)

Tru pictionary in the beach sand, knowing gestures, nods and a few winks, and a strpng dose of:

'Don't sweat the small stuff.
And don't pet the sweaty stuff!"

As for arguments based on 'reason', suggest putting yourself in the other person's moccassions and look for the underlying 'feeling' or 'intent' of anyone you truly want to communicate with.

Words be damned! Created primarily to confuse.

Or in the case of British diplomacy...to be used artfully...after you have obtained all the marbles worth keeping.

Viejomalogato:

It is important for you to know that the substitute moderator has taken it upon himself to delete three responses of mine to your snotty response to my post where you took it upon yourself to belittle the fact that I omitted a letter in a word by accident. Be informed that substantive responses to rejoinders do not include such lowly practices as this by those engaging in meaningful discourse. The fact that the moderator is your unwarranted ally in this instance does not add weight to your comment.

I'm a sonofabitch if I will post another response to you if that moderator cuts this one off !

Having been ignored on the forums so many times....I am delighted to have gotten any response at all.
All I did was reply to you what I felt. Do you not do the same?
If in the future you feel that I need such a response, please use the available 'private reply'.

Form memory, this "substitute" monitor (oh, I mean moderator) deleted a single message from you because it was way too personal. If you want to make such comments in PMs, that's up to you, but I really don't think we need to resort to any public name-calling on this or any other forum. If other responses by you were deleted, then someone else disposed of them because they saw them before I did.

Babba,
I have to agree with you if only from a different perspective. I can only sympathize with you and the lost walks with your dogs. The water has brought other changes to paradise that we witnessed when we visited for the third time in April. The changes, that I don't have to elaborate about, have made us re-think our place of choice. We now are doing more research of other areas in Mexico for our future retirement.

Before we close this subject, I want to say that I, too, had noticed in the last month the lack of contemplative, poetic and high-minded discourse normally featured on this forum. Since this has only occurred during the last month or so, I have tentatively concluded that (a) due to the hot dry weather, everyone is busy either traveling or floating around their pools with margaritas poised on their tummies (I sincerely hope this is my own future in Mexico); OR, we have all been reluctant to be so presumptuous as to step into our poet laureate's shoes while he is unavailable for comment:)

Is it possible to purchase regular cat litter in Ajijic?

JUST KIDDING.

My comment this morning is regarding Bubba. I feel very sad that you are feeling so grumpy and what I would guess... depressed. You were away for a while and everyone was abuzz wondering where you were. You have such a "colorful" personality and add so much to the forum, I hope your true personality comes back again.

FEAR NOT!! This IS The Bubster's true personality coming through. You should have been around pre-elections last Oct. Oh, it was just MARVELOUS to watch an expert at work! He would slice and dice like a Kung Fu master. If he does say something nice, it is usually a setup for yet another sneak attack. PRETENDERS AND POMPUS ASSES BEWARE...Buibba wilst smite thee with his rapier-quick wit! It will be a sad day if he ever joins the marshmellows on this forum (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!)

This Bubba sounds like a real jerk to me.

Dr. Jekyll

(The Bubbas have been going through a very painful "two month" home improvement project for the last four months complete with dust and shouting and weekly checks to the contractor and cost overruns up the kazoo and - finally- every conceivable variation of innovative Mariachi tuba playing at top volume all day long and that may have set them both on edge.)

To be a marshmellow or a jerk --what a choice!

In truth, living in the middle of a building project feels like being trapped inside a snare drum during the Rose Parade. Even so, do not forget your heavy responsibilities as founder of F.A.R.T. Far greater than those of a mere householder during chaos.

Bubba, my sympathies are with you. And to make you feel better practically instantly, I am going to relieve you of your mariachi music and send an authentic Sinaloense BANDA band over to cheer you up! (We are famous for more than the gold in them thar hills you know!)

To further cheer you up - here are some little known facts about Marlene in Mazatlan: I am related to the original founder of Banda music through marriage, AND I celebrate the same birthday as he. This year we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the death of our now world famous Father of Banda, Don Cruz Lizarraga in his home town of el Recodo, just outside Mazatlán.

P.S. Have I cheered you up yet? - do you know how NOISY and IRRITATING Banda music can be at 3 a.m. (or any other time you need to have fully functioning ear drums???) It is a 24 hour sport here.

I feel your pain, Bubba. We were in the middle of adding a laundry room and remodeling the kitchen last June, when the hospital called to say they had a new liver for Chris. This left me to oversee and rush the project so that the dust, at least, would have settled by the time I brought him home four days later. I have never worked so hard, or been so frustrated, in my life. Come to think if it, I still haven't been sufficiently appreciated for all that. I mean, really, all he had to deal with was major surgery, while I, I had to cope with exploding hot water heaters and linoleum.

Were your remodeling woes compounded, do you think, because of the language/culture differences?

I do not hear too well and thought that having to wear hearing aids was a real curse. Now when the music gets too loud I just turn off my hearing aids. Just goes to show there is always a "good" side.
