Alarm systems

I tried a number of times to get in touch with ADT and was not sucessful. I finally called S.O.S.E. (they have a add in the LCS directory). They came, asked what we needed, came the next day with a written proposal and started work the nex day. It took a day and a half to install what we asked for. The hardware was just over 6,000 pesos and they offer 2 levels of phone coverage, one for 200 P a month and another for 400P. We are pleased and feel safer.

We have often considered having an alarm system installed at our home. Does anyone physically respond in the highly unlikely event that the alarm is triggered? If so, who actually shows up at the scene, the police or the alarm company? Our thought is that the only benefit from having an alarm would be that the sound of the alarm going off would frighten off the intruder(s).

The company we just signed up with offers 2 "response" plans. For 200 pesos they notify the police when an alarm goes off. For 300 pesos they notify the police AND come with them to the house. I do not know if it works but I think that the large bell ringing and a red strobe light flashing should suggest to a robber that it is time to leave and if nothing else it should tell us that there is someone either in our house or trying to get into our house. I really do not like having people in the house while we sleeping.

Sounds like money well spent to us. We share your sentiments about prowlers lurking around while you are sleeping. Since we travel quite a bit, we are also concerned about security during our absence. We look forward to talking to the folks at the alarm company and hearing their suggestions on securing our property. Thanks for the lead on the alarm company. Much appreciated.
