Sod as in grass

Can't Post | Private Reply
Has anybody bought rolls of sod here? Where do you recommend I find it and how much does it cost? We are in San Antonio and wanting to sod an area that is just dirt now. I don't want to seed the area because of the dogs. Though maybe it would be cheaper to seed it and put in a small fence to discourage the dogs from entering....

Thanks. Linda H.

I'm in Morelia and not in Ajijic, but I've done sod and I've done seed. Believe me, sod is far better and worth the slightly additional cost. Actually, it isn't that expensive considering that you'll have instant results. If you don't have a gardener or landscaper who knows where the sod farm is, go to your local nursery and ask.

The Japanese Vivero has sod for fifteen pesos a meter. It didn't come in rolls, just one meter pieces of sod. I have seen it elsewhere, in other viveros in and around Ajijic, but I don't know their prices. Our sod has taken hold and is doing quite nicely; so I can recommend it.

The vivero behind the clinic in Ajijic always has sod. I just had a small area sodded as part of a larger project so I am not sure just what the sod cost itself. As we are in the hot, dry season I would not recommend putting down grass seed. Even with sod you need to water it heavily until the roots take hold. Actually the rainy season would be the ideal time to lay down sod.
