A Mexican Spanish <> English Car Parts Lexicon

With the aid of two mechanic friends here in Lerdo, I have put together a lexicon of car parts. Your comments and suggestions are most welcome. The Mexican usage is from northern Mexico, so there are probably some regional differences. If you know of any, I'd sure like to hear from you so I can include them.

You've done it again, Rolly! This list is a lifesaver, especially for a woman like me who barely knows the correct automotive term even IN ENGLISH Thanks.

Thanks, Rolly, this is great. I have learned so much from you and others on the forum. I will be arriving in Ajijic to stay by mid-May, and feel I know many of you already.

Rolly,
We call gaskets empaque or sello.
glovebox = cajuelita,
axle = flecha,
battery = pila,
muffler = mofle,
headlights = faros
highbeams ;<) = faros altos

Rolly: would like to add a part to the list of automobile parts translations; recently the Mexican Jetta needed one of these and it was a pain in the *** to get a good one.

Oil seal = reten (accent on the final syllable)

Jerry. you might want to print it again. In the past 2 weeks, I have made a number of corrections and additions. I still have a few more I am working on.
