April off to a busy, noisy start in Mazatlán

Hot on the heels of Semana Santa, we have Motorcycle Week here. It is a great time and has been a busy week for those that came thousands of kms. to enjoy the fun. Yesterday the police acrobatic team from Mexico City (on motorcycles of course) put on a great show and did things nobody should ever try while on a motorcycle. They were riding vintage Harley's and dressed in the old police uniforms from days gone by. There is another show tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in the bull ring. Well worth the 40 pesos admission. I have attached one of the many photos we took.

AND while all of this other activity is taking place, President Fox paid us a visit and did an "oceanside chat" at the Fisherman's monument. This involved a navy ship complete with helicopter anchored just off shore, and lots of security. All traffic on the main street between el Centro and the Golden Zone areas was rerouted. It was a traffic disaster, even for those on motorcycles. But, we are getting used to this kind of thing with increasing numbers of big events taking place in our fair city.

Yeah, great timing there President Fox! Traffic disaster is an understatement!

And they closed off my beach in front of the monument! Sent me and my fellow beach denizens around this really circuitous detour, and when I get back to the beach, I think I'll be smart and avoid the confusion on the way back so I take a different route and immediately get lost, and all around me are cars and buses and truck with horns blaring and tempers fraying.

Normally when I get lost I just hail a pulmonia. But since none of them appeared to be moving...

Then somebody decides it's a bright idea to land a helicopter in a dirt field somewhere and that kicks up the mother of all dust storms, which added to the fumes from all the vehicles that weren't going anywhere combined to make my least pleasant day spent in Maz.

Which of course still makes for a pretty great day. The weather is not to be believed!

The motorcycles were really cool too.

To boldly go where no wig has gone before.
