Skype

Is there anyone in the Lakeside area who has succeeded in setting up Skype and making calls? I need help. Every time I try to make a call on Skype, I get a message after 2 seconds that the call failed. I had no trouble NoB, but no luck here. I use Lagunanet for my ISP.

One of the local computer gurus, David Atherton, who has a broadband connection with Lagunanet, uses SKYPE and loves it. It usually works quite well. There are occasions apparently when there are a lot of others on line, that the connection breaks up and is difficult to use. But usually David is quite happy with SKYPE. As I recollect he has a high-speed 512up and 512kb/sec down connection

What are the upload and download speed requirements for SKYPE, might that be the issue. As I remember you have a dialup connection with lagunanet. You might want to do a speed test at www.pcpitstop.com to see what your upload and download speeds are. I have a backup lagunanet dialup connection and when I do speed tests I normally get 28kb/sec down and 32kb/s up (that's right. I get a faster upload speed)

So yes SKYPE works with a broadband lagunanet connection, but I don't know whether it can work with a slower dialup connection.

Skype is supposed to work with a dial-up connection.

We use Skype and Packet 8 both down here and have had no problems with either. But then we're not Lakeside, and we aren't on Lagunanet. We're oceanside and use Telmex/Prodogy/Infinitum (whoever they are today) DSL.

I have discovered that skype to skype works just fine. It is skype-out that doesn't. I think that's a skype problem, not telmex or lagunanet.

I'm sorry. What I meant to say is that Dave Atherton, who has Lagunanet as his ISP regularily uses both Skype and Skype-out.

Also, I know people who use both Vonage and packet8 here in Ajijic on both Prodigy and Lagunanet who usually have good luck with both. Some posters suggest though, that this may change.

We use Skype-out for outbound, and Packet 8 for inbound.
