Pete, did you ever get the Voom receiver and if so, what kind of reception are you getting?

Sadly a local dealer tried it here and he did not get a signal. He was not using a spectrum analyzer or the other equipment more sophisticated dealers up north would use. So the signal might have been there and he might have simply missed it. He was supposed to then forward the receiver to me so that I could play around with it using my old C/Ku band 12 foot dish. For reasons unknown, he chose to send the unit directly to Monterey and not let me test it.

He then posted a message on a forum earlier this month explaining that he had sent it on and that "Since VOOM is going to stop their service at the end of the month....
The project is dead in the water... !! ". You can judge the accuracy of his statements come April 1st.

We have all kinds of abandoned C band dishes down here, many have tight mess reflective surfaces which would work well with the Voom Ku signal. From what I have read, there is a very strong chance that should these dishes be pointed at the VOOM bird that an acceptable signal could be brought in. Voom comes quite well on a medium sized Ku dish in Mexico City and other large population centers in Mexico. I can see no reason why Voom should not work along the shores of Lake Chapala.

If anyone else has information on the reception of Voom in Mexico, especially around Guadalajara I would love to have you post here and give us the true skinny.
