Vonage & DSL

I'm non-techie so need help. My Vonage equipment is on its way. NOB I have broadband. SOB I'm about to switch to Infinitum. I understand that the Vonage equipment has its own router. Do I need another router to provide a firewall between me and the DSL line - all and any help will be appreciated.

The equipment you will receive is not a router but rather a telephone adapter. One end of the adapter will attach to your DSL router and the other to your conventional telephone.

What they are shipping me is a Linksys RT31P2 device which "googling" tells me it is a form of router. I know the older stuff did not have a router. It's a shame I don't understand more of this stuff but all I want is for it to work when needed! Thanks for the input.

Whatever they are shipping you is all the equipment that you need. Telmex came out and plugged their box into the box Vonage sent and it works, "fine as frogs hair". Right now we have 2 computers on line and 4 phones plugged into Vonage and they all work at the same time. I do not understand it but it is loverly.

Bournemouth,

Go to www.vonage.com and then click on Help.
There is a site there that gives detailed instructions for connecting the RT31P2. Looks pretty simple to this non-techie.

Thanks Pat - as of this morning everything SOB is hooked up and working well - all I have to do is to learn to shift it from SOB to NOB and back. It is nice to have DSL after dial up, I must say.
