Online in our RV with an internet satellite dish.. how we did it

Hi all-- I recently blogged about our low-cost internet connection via satellite that we're using as we travel inMexico (and the US) as tourists this winter. If anyone is interested, here's the link:

You do have to be quite technical to make this work.

I always thought that this would be a great idea but somehow thought it would be illegal. Something about Federal law requiring you to have the dish installed by a professional... I assumed it was because they were afraid that you could somehow mess up the satellite or something, but I guess not. Did some surfing around and sure enough, there are companies that are selling exactly the kind of hook-up you've got.

Must be sweet.

Hi--Direcway will not sign you up unless you hire a professional installer, including some of those aftermarket firms. We hired our neighbor who had already done some installations. That initial installation is on your house.

There are regulations about using the dish safely, naturally. Unlike TV dishes, it's two-way energy.

Yes, it is sweet. This week, with the quake and tsunami, we were very glad to be more in touch with the outer world than we sometimes are in Mexico. (We live quite happily without TV when we travel.)
