Internet Connection

In many areas I can pass for almost smart, but when it comes to getting wired, I am a techno moron. Can anybody help me?

I moved to Ajijic on Dec. 10 and brought my new laptop with me. I don't want a land phone, but prefer to just have a cell phone. Am renting close to the Town Plaza in Ajijic. Are there other feasible options if I don't want a phone line at home?

Please be very specific and tell me name(s) of company to contact and pros and cons of any alternative solutions (please re-read the last phrase of my first sentence above).

Thank you very much to whomever takes pity on me and responds!

P.S. I didn't post the recent query about telephones but somehow got credited for it in the forum, so please don't dismiss my plea, thinking that I'm too needy!!

One option...wireless.

Go and visit Lagunanet on the carreterra across from Telmex and have them walk you through their plans. This is assuming that Rod has space for you on the system and you have line of sight to his tower.

Adding to Jean's great comments, the typical equipment/installation cost at the moment is $450 US and the monthly rate is $40 for 256 Kb/S and $60 for 512 Kb/sec.

Hey Jean I'm just SW of you for 2 weeks. I got in last night. I got to see real snow when I woke up this morning. And I was complaining about the cold weather this weekend in Ajijic.

Apparently we are supposed to get another huge dump of snow this weekend. Welcome back to hell :)
