Electrical Grounding

In checking out some of the electrical sockets in my rent house with a home depot tester, I find that some have the ground and hot line reversed. While this should not be a problem with a newer doubly isolated appliance, it could pose some problems. If a washing machine outlet were so wired, the machine case could be hot.

I pointed this out to the "electrician" who came over to troubleshoot another problem. He replied that in Mexico it was no problem. Sockets are wired either way.

In the house that we are building, I plan to follow USA type codes. I have a Code Check book from Home Depot that is very handy.

Any comments from you home builders out there?

My new house in Ajijic is wired per US standards, The electrician understood that I and the architect wanted it that way and did so. We have grounding rods ect. None of the wires are crossed, etc. Perhaps you should consider another electrician.

Obviously, I won't use my landlord's "electrician." I had rather do it all myself. I have done a lot of finish wiring in the past.

Just looking for other's experiences.
