Free-to-air satellite receiver

After buying a new 4DTV digitial receiver for my satellite TV system, I discovered that I couldn't receive one of my favorite German programs: Deutsche Welle. So I bought a Fortec Star MPEG free-to-air receiver. Now I can watch Deutsche Welle, but would like to know what else I can receive with this equipment that I can't get with my 4DTV. Can someone recommend an online site with the information my technician would need for programming additional channels. By the way, my I ordered by Fortec I got an extra one by mistake, in case anyone's interested. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Kim.

Yep it was about a year ago that DW converted to Mpeg-2 technology. To learn more about the subject, try going to Mike Kohl's site http://global-cm.net/ and linking to the MPEG-2 SECTION . Er spricht kein Deutch

You will see that another good blind search receiver is the Pansat 2500a. I have one.

Don't buy such a receiver just to get The DISH Network signals for free. The DISH folks are upgrading their encryption technology to Nagravison 2. I'm told that once they do in the next 3 to 6 months that no one will be pirating signals from them anytime in the near future.

If you've got the time and can point your dish at different C band and Ku band satellites, you will have a lot of fun. As you will see from Mike's page, there are thousands of channels to choose from.
