There will be an exciting event in Mazatlan on Dec 11 and 12. I have copied the following information from a notice posted on whatsupmaz, a local forum. Maps of the free art tour are available at the Mazatlan Reading Library, across the street from the Art Museum on Sixto Osuna, as well as at David Bodwell's "Mazatlan Book and Coffee Company" in the GZ and in other places. This will be a wonderful experience for art lovers who want to get inside the studios and homes of our local artists. I can't wait!
When: Saturday December 11, 5 to 9 pm, and Sunday December 12, 11 to 5pm

Where: Centro Historico (see map for individual studios)

Artist Open Studio Tour to be held in Mazatlán’s Centro Historico

Artists in Mazatlán’s Centro Historico are planning their first Artist Open Studio Tour for the weekend of December 11 and 12. Mark your calendars, because it is sure to be an interesting event. It is an opportunity for the public to take a self-guided tour to visit studios that they would not normally get to see.

How does it work? Start by picking up a map at key businesses and hotels around Centro Historico and the Golden Zone. You’ll have Saturday evening 5pm to 9pm and Sunday 11pm to 5pm to stroll through the streets of Old Town and visit the artists of your choice. With this variety in the time schedule, visitors are given a choice of visiting studios in the daylight hours or evening. A diverse range of styles and mediums from drawing, painting, prints, sculpture, photography and more will await you.

Mazatlecan artists as well as artists who split their time between Mexico and abroad, will be sharing their work. The studios are in store fronts, private homes, or tucked away in unlikely places - above restaurants in the Plaza Machado. This is a new art adventure for Mazatlán and one that we can look forward to each year. The following is a partial list of artists who will be participating: Janeth Berrettini, Jesus Chang Balderrama, Elina Chauvet, David Lee Gallacci, Loretta Shores-Gallacci, Erin Goodwin-Guerrero, Elaine Kemp Zazueta, Blas Nayar, Glen Rogers, Langdon Gallery, Martin Gavica Saenz, Cecelia Sanchez Duarte, Gerardo Santamarina Lagunes, Lucila Santiago, Alvin Vander Heiden, Kerry Vander Meer, and Arturo Valenzuela Leon.

The Open Studio Tour gives the public a rare opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes. You can simply go to meet the artists and see their work or purchase artworks directly from the studio if the work so moves you. Here is a chance to discover another rich layer of culture in Centro Historico. Afterwards, enjoy dinner in one of the many fine restaurants on the Plaza or throughout the area.
