Does anyone know what happened to the "Maztravel" website? It was down for a few days about a week ago, and then came back for about a day. Now it seems to be sunk without a trace. I especially like to look at the MOPS real estate listings, and would like to know if it is returning.

I did a tracer on it and it says "host unreachable". Henry may have his server down for maintenance. I suppose we'll find out soon what happened.

Henry's site is terrific for the weather cam he has and much more! I also check in now and again and watch him "working" in his office. Maybe he will post on one of the forums and let us know. Great informational site on Mazatlan, just for fun not profit.

Now, Kitchen Wiz, can you do a trace to see why Prodigy is sending my email messages (both directions) into cyber space never to be seen again?

I don't understand your question completely, but I have to tell you that I'm, running windows 98 and thats about it with my knowledge of Bill Gates Piece of sheet operating system. I just formatted Dan's harddrive and reloaded win XP and after two years, his system is working fast and fabulous. Windows sucks but that's what wee are stuck with. If I had more info or if you'd give me beers, I'd be glad to come over and see what I can do as an amateur hacker. Give me a call.

You want to hear about email problems?

Some :::expletive deleted::: decided to use the domain name I get my mail through as the reply-to for the spam he sends out.

The result?

I can't receive mail anymore. When I last looked, I had received 50,000 of these "addressee unknown" messages from mail servers out there who couldn't find the people this :::expletive deleted::: was trying to spam. They're coming in so fast my poor little email program can't keep up. And the person administering my mail server doesn't know what to do either, short of just turning the thing off.

And that was two weeks ago! I bet I've probably received a half million messages by now.

So now I'm using Google mail. We'll see how long that lasts.

I"m ready to go back to paper and pen, envelopes and stamps. Well, OK, not really... but it doesn't seem as far-fetched to me as it once did.

Gee, that's not good. On the bright side, I will be looking forward to a hand written Xmas card! (You didn't harm someone recently, causing such revenge...just thinking perhaps taste testers for some of your newly created recipes - ie: the beans?? No?)

LOL! No, I haven't inflicted my beans on anyone yet, though perhaps the mere mention of olive oil in that context was sufficient to make some enemies, I don't know.

I shouldn't complain. It could be worse. Some people who this happens to find that their address is being used to send out pornography, including child porn.

The :::expletive deleted::: who used my address is just selling hangover remedies. And given the amount of beer I've been known to consume, you have admit it's a little funny.

But I stopped laughing after around the tenth spam message.

Lemmesee. I originally posted a message asking if anyone knew if what happened to the maztravel website, and if it was ever coming back.

The first two responses seemed to address my question, even if nobody knew the answer. As for the rest, I simply have no idea what you are talking about.

So, I'll ask again - does anyone know anything about the maztravel website?

Sorry but we don't know or we would have happily shared it with you by now. Henry is the private owner of the site and has not come forward to any of the local forums to let us know. As someone mentioned, it is likely just a server issue.

At least I can ping maztravel now, so it's not like Henry is corpsified or anything like that.

The guy does all of this in Perl on a Linux box. I'm betting he's upgrading his system, maybe even using Gentoo as a distro, which means he's compiling the kernel and everything else from scratch.

If so, I'd give it another couple of days.

I am so happy to see Henry's website up again! It really is a great way to learn about Maz. He is a great friend of the Maz Reading Library and has included a lot of info about the Library as well as a way to look at our booklist by entering your favorite author, or the title of a book you are looking for. The list is a little outdated now, we have over a thousand books that weren't on the original list, but I am sure he will include an updated version soon. Check it out. And when you are in Maz, come on in to see us. Sixto Osuna 115, across from the Art Museum in Old Town, 1/2 block from Olas Altas beach.
