Aeromexico web site

FYI:

If you make a reservation from the Mexico site for a round trip to Phoenix from Guadalajara, you pay about $200 USD less in ($MXN) than if you make reservations from the US website. The down side is that Aeromexico will only accept credit cards from Mexican banks. You can make the reservation & then pay in cash at the airport or with a US credit card. It takes a phone call to straighten things out.

The web site itself is screwy and you can get hung up in loops.

I have not tried a local Chapala travel agent to get a comparison.

I am going to look into that because I was surprised when I wandered around the Mexicana and ATA sites how inexpensive it could be go get to Guadalajara in particular.

For instance if I wanted to get to Guad for mid February, and drove from Cleveland to Toledo on the turnpike about 90 minutes, the cost for a RT ticket is $436. Yep, $436 - leaves at 5:30 am, goes thru Midway in Chicago, and arrives noonish. A price like that makes it possible to go for a long weekend.

Also, Mexicana usually offers an e-connect fare of $250 RT out of O'Hare in Chicago. The least expensive way to Chicago from Cleveland is Southwest, about $80 RT on special, since SW goes into Midway a cab ride over to O'Hare would be necessary - so figure $400 RT and a little inconvenience and hassle and with their scheduling it would take a whole day to get there, so nto so good for a short time frame - but better than the $700 fare straight up off the US airline sites.

So if a little Spanish and a trip to the airport to pay can cut it even more - what fun to figure out!

Anybody have any more hints?

Unfortunately there is no simple answer to the question. IATA (International Air Transport Association) plays a big part here. Weed your way through this site for some understanding of this governing body. These are the people that can pull licenses from travel agents if the rules aren't adhered to, set tariffs and approve routes.
