Anybody Making Tamales for Dia de los Muertos?

Was wondering if people had their tamaleras going to make delicious tamales for Dia de los Muertos?

I made 3 kinds this year. Tamales Mihuatecos (Pumpkin & Spicy Black Bean Tamales), Tamales de rajas con queso and Tamales de frijol (not spicy for my 19 mo son).

It's so much fun for me this year because he tried his first tamales this week, and he loved them. In fact, he inhaled them practically! Mexican boy, through and through.

I'd love to hear what others are cooking!

I just finished a big stack of tamales left over from last night's San Judas Tadeo celebration. My guess is Doña Martha won't make more for next week.

I once had sweet potato tamales in Los Angeles -- so good. I have tried to talk Martha into make some for me, but she just turns up her nose at the idea. Damn! I tried to make some for myself, but I made a mess -- tasty, but not a tamal.

Fran and family always make tamales for los Dias de los Muertos. Tomorrow, the 31st, they make two kinds: frijol con pipian, and calabasa con camaron. Monday the 1st, they traditionally do tamales de puerco.

This morning we were out at the mercado getting the raw materials for the tamales, and the flowers and stuff for the altar. It was impressive to see huge truckloads of flowers being unloaded, or selling out of the back. A real riot of color.

It's a big operation here, and one of Fran's sisters comes over as the main tamal chef in charge.

Depending on how many relatives drop in we should have enough for recalentado for a couple of days. Yum.
