Fran and family always make tamales for los Dias de los Muertos. Tomorrow, the 31st, they make two kinds: frijol con pipian, and calabasa con camaron. Monday the 1st, they traditionally do tamales de puerco. This morning we were out at the mercado getting the raw materials for the tamales, and the flowers and stuff for the altar. It was impressive to see huge truckloads of flowers being unloaded, or selling out of the back. A real riot of color. It's a big operation here, and one of Fran's sisters comes over as the main tamal chef in charge. Depending on how many relatives drop in we should have enough for recalentado for a couple of days.
