Kitchen elements terminology

Wow! I just realized there's a whole bunch of kitchen words I don't know because when I was living in Spain as a young girl we simply did not have some of these things, so I never learned the vocabulary. Oddly, when I ask Mexicans the terms for the things I am pointing out, they also are at a loss. So, how do we say:

kitchen cabinets
kitchen countertop

I didn't have these things as a girl, and I don't know these words either in peninsular Spanish or Mexican Spanish.

¡Hola!

También yo crecí en España hace muchísimos años--a Madrid.

La palabra ´tablero´ es la que uso yo para decir ´kitchen counter´ y ´armario´ o ´armario para los platos´ por ´kitchen cabinet´.

When I was making my menaje, my Mexican friends gave me cabinete de la cocina for kitchen cabinet.

Nevera, and cabinete also in Central, and South America! I have also heard, in addition to "refri", hielera, in Mexico, though the later is more often used for the portable coolers we lug out to the campo.

For cabinets I would say "gabinetes" but my Spanish is much more Colombian than Mexican now, having lived in Colombia and having been married to a Colombian for 13 years. As for a kitchen counter, the word I have heard is "mesón" but my ex-husband didn't know the word either and we just always referred to it as "el counter." Funny that a native speaker wouldn't know the word for "counter" but many homes in Colombia were not built with built-in counters and cabinets, so they just brought in tables to use like counters.

That's the problem I'm having too. I lived in Colombia, as well as Spain. I'm still at a loss. The maid calls it the "pretil." But when I use that word with the fellow who is doing work for me he gives me a blank stare. I put my hand on the counter and tell him, "esta parte, aqui." Nada. Nothing. Zip. I think I'll have to go to a kitchen store somewhere and see what they call it.

A few kitchen cabinet terms:

wall cabinet = alacena

base cabinet = gabinete base o gabinete de piso

drawer bank = cajonera

pantry = dispensa

Corner cabinet = esquinero

countertop = cubierta (term used within the kitchen industry)

Gracías, un error de dedo mas un error de ortografía= gabtea. En centro ámerica. dicen gaveta en lugar de cajón.
¿Hay otros lugares que usen gaveta?
