Rising Lake

Yikes. Just when we're about to relocate to lakeside from NYC we're wondering if we should take our swim fins. Our place is 1 block south of the Carreterra. Is the lake level still a safe distance from there? And on top o that, just pulled up the weather report and see rain predicated for next 5 days. Our rain slickers will be the first items we pack.

I believe the safety of your home will depend on vertical rise from the lake to your home not lateral distance. Good luck. Hmmm, lakeside or Seattle, lakeside or Seattle? Some folks who live on the hillside are facing water challenges also, however it's water/mud coming from the hills above them., not the lake below. How'd ever thought!

It is Thursday morning and has been pouring all morning in the Ajijic area. There is some serious street flooding as I found out while getting to Chapala earlier.

The lake is rising rapidly and, since we are only three structures up from the lake, we do feel somewhat vulnerable. If we have another rainy season like these last two, I don't see how extensive flooding can be avoided. Our gardener is in his late 60s, has lived in Ajijic his whole life and has worked this same garden for about 35 years. He's never seen the water reach this property but it has come mighty close.

Somebody should have a serious talk with the Huichols and the Virgin of Zapopan and let them know that, while we appreciate their help, too much of a good thing is a bad thing.
